Ways to Work With
Sunny Sabbini

There's more than one way into this work, and they aren't four sizes of the same thing.

Each one looks at your whole partnership: the two of you, your roles, how you decide together, and what's built around all of it. What changes is who does the reading, what it concentrates on, and what you walk out with.

Here's each one, what it's for, and how to tell where to start.

Two business partners sitting across a table from each other, neither speaking

Sunny Sabbini is a partnership advisor in the San Francisco Bay Area working with
business partners and cofounders whose partnership has outgrown how it was set up.

Before the Read

Two ways to get moving without committing to anything. Neither requires the other. Either can stand alone.

The Partnership Capacity Check

Free · ten minutes · no score

A short, self-guided instrument that puts what's changed in the business next to what hasn't changed in the partnership.

What it's for: making the gap something you can date instead of something you feel. It doesn't tell you what to do. It gives you something specific enough to say out loud to your partner, which for most people is the actual obstacle.

Most people take it alone first. That's the design, not the exception.

The Partnership Design Lab

$350 per partnership · half day · cohort of three to five partnerships

A half day working on your own partnership in a room with a few others doing the same. You work from standard versions of the core agreements, choose what fits, and leave with a high-level plan and one thing you can execute that week.

What it's for: momentum. Not a full build, and not a diagnosis. A real first move, made deliberately, without a long engagement in front of it.

The fee credits toward the Read. That's the only credit in the ladder.

If you've been nodding through this, take the 15-point self-check: Is Your Partnership Underbuilt? You'll leave with specific structural language for what's been driving the friction, and will tell you where to start.

The Read

Everything past this point is built on one, and nothing before it needs one.

The Partnership Evolution Read

$2,500 for two partners · $3,000 for three · $3,500 for four

Each partner works through a structured process independently first. Then I read the two accounts together, across strategy, systems, and soul, and we meet.

What it's for:direction. What's actually binding first, what can wait, and the order to take the rest. Partners usually arrive with a theory about what's wrong. The Read is where you find out whether it's the thing that's actually holding you.

Both partners, from intake on. There's no one-partner version, because the whole method depends on reading two independent accounts.

After the Read

Three ways the work continues. Which ones, and in what order, is what the Read tells you. Most partnerships don't do all three.

Building the partnership's culture. Trust, respect, and the ability to say hard things to each other while they still matter. This is where anything unwritten that would quietly override what you build gets cleared first, and where what the two of you model starts reaching the rest of the organization. It combines work specific to your partnership with a small monthly group session, so a practice has somewhere to actually be practiced.

The full build. Your agreements, made specific to your business, your decisions, and your team, each one run live against a real decision before it's called done. You leave with things you've tested rather than things that sounded right in a room.

Keeping it current.Conditions keep changing, so a structure that fits this year fits less well next year. For partnerships who want it, the working relationship continues as the partnership keeps changing.

Scope and fee are set in conversation, once the Read has produced a direction worth building toward. None of this is sold from a page, and none of it is bought before there's a read to build on.

How to Tell Where to Start

If you're not sure anything's wrong, or you're the only one looking: the Capacity Check. Ten minutes, and it gives you language rather than a verdict.

If you already know something needs building and want a first move this month: the Design Lab.

If you know you're building and want to know what to build first: the Read. Nothing before it is required.

If you're further along than that: still the Read. It's the gate, and it exists because the alternative is building the thing that presented instead of the thing that's actually binding.

If What's Straining Is More Relational Than Structural

Often the structural work is the right work, and a lot of what felt personal turns out to have been structural.

Sometimes the strain between you is what's driving rather than what's resulting. When that's the case, Conflict2Collaboration.com is the better starting point.
